Does anyone speak Swahili?
October 30, 2008 by Admin · 3 Comments
I am interested in learning Swahili, are there any African's that can give advice on where I can learn this beautiful language. I am also interested in visiting Africa, any advice on where to go. Thank you.
**SERIOUS RESPONSES ONLY!
yeah! loads of people speak swahili. from age 0 it was the only language i could speak properly, then i came to england and forgot it, along with kikuyu and french (which i still know a bit of) but my mother tongue (luo is still intact) & of course my english is 'better'
it's a horrendously difficult language to learn if you're starting fresh but the best way is just to jump in the deep end and go there. people will be obliging. the nationals take knowing their swahili very personally…
if you're visiting africa you'll have to pass by kenya, not only has it got the best parks in the world, the food is unsurpassable, the hotels are excellent, you can find anything you want Anything in the marketplace. I'd recommend going there (2africa in general) around christmas time cos that's when it's hot (you don't want rainy season cos it comes with mosquitos), and everyone will be partying & having fun. if you book for november or january the tickets will be cheaper.

Swahili song Cheza – X Plastaz (African rap)
October 27, 2008 by Admin · 16 Comments
No Bongo flava: strictly Tanzanian hip hop with Kiswahili and Maasai lyrics.
Latest video by Tanzanian rap group X Plastaz who toured the world with their trademark Maasai hip hop style. After the conscious rap song Nini dhambi, the new video Cheza (‘dance’) is about having a good time. It shows rare on-stage and behind-the-scenes footage from their tours in Europe (Brussels, Amsterdam, London), South America (Brazil: Rio and Salvador) and Gabon (Libreville at Gabao hip hop festival).
With raps by the late Faza Nelly and a beat made by Dutch producer Kid Sundance with a sound reminiscent of Slum Village or Jdilla / Jay Dee.
Edit: Marc Schapink, post production: Thomas Gesthuizen (J4) & Paul Kempe.
Song produced by Kid Sundance
NB this clip is slightly off sync, a youtube problem. I will try to upload another format that will cause less sync issues.
See www.xplastaz.com and www.myspace.com/xplastaz for more about X Plastaz.

I have a kitenge with the Swahili words "Palipo na upendo mungu huletaheri". Can anyone give me a translation
October 26, 2008 by Admin · 3 Comments
I could not find "huletaheri" in any dictionaries, but what I could translate would read:
"Where there is love, fate/destiny [huletaheri]
Palipo – where there is…
upendo – love/affection
mungu – fate/destiny/god
huletaheri must be a verb….
This sounds like it could be a proverb or popular saying.
Where online can I find good sources about learning Swahili? Something that isn't expensive, but simple.?

how fast can you learn a language with the rosetta stone program?
October 24, 2008 by Admin · 3 Comments
i was thinking about learning either german or swahili.
It all depends on the person using it. Personally, I hate it. Pictures flash up and they say the word, which CAN help you memorize and learn, but not always, because they don't teach you how to use it, in what context, or anything of the sort. I was pretty disappointed with it and don't see why it sells so great, there are a lot of better programs out there. I would recommend using it with another program. For example, Pimsleur is very good for helping you speak and learn sentence structure and all, but you end up with a very limited vocabulary. By using it in combination with Rosetta Stone, it makes up for Pimsleurs lack of words.
Though I don't like it, don't take my word for it. Try it out yourself, because everyone's learning style is different, and heck, if it's still selling, it must mean there's SOMETHING good about it.
