how fast can you learn a language with the rosetta stone program?

October 24, 2008 by

i was thinking about learning either german or swahili.

It all depends on the person using it. Personally, I hate it. Pictures flash up and they say the word, which CAN help you memorize and learn, but not always, because they don't teach you how to use it, in what context, or anything of the sort. I was pretty disappointed with it and don't see why it sells so great, there are a lot of better programs out there. I would recommend using it with another program. For example, Pimsleur is very good for helping you speak and learn sentence structure and all, but you end up with a very limited vocabulary. By using it in combination with Rosetta Stone, it makes up for Pimsleurs lack of words.

Though I don't like it, don't take my word for it. Try it out yourself, because everyone's learning style is different, and heck, if it's still selling, it must mean there's SOMETHING good about it.

There is no way to tell you how long it will take, because it all depends on how well you comprehend the material, and how much work you put into it.
German is an incredibly fun language to learn, I am fascinated by it, however I've been studying for over two years and I would not say that I speak German fluently, but I do know quite a bit of the language. If you know anyone else that speaks the language (whatever it is you choose) that makes it easier, because you can actually practice speaking to a real person, using real conversation.
The Rosetta Stone software is a very good tool/program. It's been around for years, and many public schools use Rosetta Stone. I've tinkered with it, and I like that way it teaches. I would recommend you try it!

I used to work for the company, and they said 6 – 8 months at half an hour a day will complete a whole level. If you have more time, or already have a knowledge of the sounds in the language, you may take less time. However, that is their usual recommendation. By the way, the system DOES work. I did not like the company very well, but the product is AWESOME.
